New Drypoint Engravings

First posted 24. August, 2025

After many years of wanting to try out intaglio printmaking, I finally got the chance.

In the place where we live, there is an old etching press. During the summer months, the room that it lives in is deserted. If this is not a direct invitation to get started with printmaking, I don't know what is.

For those that are not familiar with the process:

First a plate is made. in this case I used a plexiglass plate. I engrave the motive into the plate with a needle, by hand.

After this, the plate is covered in paint and wiped off again so that the paint is only left in the engraved lines. Then the plate is placed in the press, with a piece of damp paper on top and rolled through the press. Each print requires a new application of paint and as a result every print is a unique original. the process is laborious and enjoyable.
